Dear Families
Last Friday, we celebrated ‘Grandparents/Special Visitors Afternoon’; the classrooms were filled with laughter and conversations. These special people are a precious gift, bringing love, wisdom, and faith to our families and school community. Many of our students are blessed to have grandparents/special others who share stories and traditions and often step in as primary caregivers, providing stability, warmth, and guidance. Their role is a living example of Christ’s love—patient, compassionate, and enduring. Let us remember to give thanks to the grandparents who, through their sacrifices and nurturing, helped shape the hearts, minds, and faith of our children. Let us also pray for those who are no longer with us or unable to be present.
‘Dear Lord,
We thank You for the gift of grandparents and all the special people who bring love, wisdom, and joy into our lives. Bless them with strength, health, and peace. May their hearts be filled with the love they have so generously given, and may they feel honoured and cherished by those they have nurtured. Guide them to continue sharing their faith and kindness, inspiring generations to follow their example. We are grateful for their presence and ask that You watch over them, holding them close always.
Amen.
We also celebrated ‘World Teachers’ Day, and it is important to recognise and thank all the incredible teachers at Sacred Heart. With patience, dedication, and a passion for teaching and learning, they guide our students every day. For our students in the younger classes who have been exploring the theme of superheroes, there's no doubt that real-life heroes are all around them—in their classrooms! Thank you to our teachers for being the everyday superheroes who inspire, support, and make a difference in our students' lives. We are grateful for the daily kindness, wisdom, and love they bring to our school community.
Families, please take a moment to review our updated school guidelines below. These guidelines are essential in providing clarity, supporting a welcoming and supportive environment, and ensuring everyone has a shared understanding and an equal opportunity to thrive.
‘Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting our school community.’

Rocket Math Program
This year, our Grade One to Six classes have introduced the Rocket Math Program. It is a ten-minute-a-day, paper and pencil, supplemental math facts practice program that offers over 25 different learning tracks. It is a uniquely structured program for the sequential practice and mastery of math facts.
Students learn 4 facts on each sheet in a carefully controlled sequence, enabling mastery at an individualised pace.
Students practice orally with a partner every day.
One-minute timings assess when students are ready to move to the next set of facts.
Besides facts practice there are learning tracks for teaching computation, forming numerals efficiently, and beginning numerals.
When the Rocket Math program is taught daily with fidelity, students learn at least one operation to automaticity per term. Students who have mastered maths facts show marked improvement in high-order maths algorithms including fractions, word problems, division and multiplication.
The overall results for our Sports Carnivals this year are...
McCarthy (Gold) - 977
Johnson (Red) - 1135
Hegarty (Blue) - 1375
These points are a combination of the results from the Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics carnivals.
Congratulations to Hegarty House for being the House Champion for 2024!
Sisters Beach Cultural Excursion
Last Monday, First Nations students in Grades 2-6 enjoyed a day on Country at Sisters Beach facilitated by cultural knowledge sharers from Circular Head Aboriginal Centre (CHAC). The day began with a cleansing Smoking Ceremony on the beach, followed by a walk with breathtaking views to caves and a living site. Students learnt about how the Aboriginal people cared for and lived off Country, their customs and what daily life would have been like for them before colonisation. Students had the opportunity to participate in a cultural dance, make kelp baskets, create art on rocks and taste some bushtucker - the green ants were a favourite of many!
Last week the 3-4 classes watched Episode 28 of BTN for 2024. Our learning focused on the Nobel Prizes segment including learning the history of the awards and about the founder, Alfred Nobel. Students were divided into groups and challenged with a four-question quiz at the end of the week. This was a fabulous collaboration of teamwork through allocating roles, effective research and participation from all group members.

SUN HATS
Being sunsmart is a whole year approach. It means using sun protection when the UV is 3 and above (September to April), and safe sun exposure for Vitamin D (May to August). In Tasmania the UV is 3 and above from September to April.
Please ensure your child has a school sun safe hat from this date. Should you need to purchase a replacement, please see the school office.
Thank you
